Dead Kennedys (ou ainda como é conhecida DK) é uma
banda de punk rock formada na Califórnia, nos Estados Unidos em 1978. Na década
de 80 a banda teve uma grande influência na música do cenário punk, com uma
fusão da música punk inglesa com o hardcore norte-americano.

A banda combinava
suas letras sarcásticas com humor zueiro ácido, fazendo críticas aos
problemas sociais e temas que envolviam a política.
Diversas músicas da
banda caem matando criticam as ideologias de algumas entidades
religiosas e de seus representantes.
A história começa
quando um dos integrantes da banda, Eric
Boucher responde a um anúncio feito pelo guitarrista East Bay Ray, no qual procurava um vocalista para uma banda.
Nem todos fãs ou
curtidores da banda sabem que o codinome Jello Biafra, escolhido por Eric
Boucher é baseado em uma guerra fracassada da Nigéria.
No ano de 1978 a
política era má administrada e o povo sofria com insatisfação e a repressão,
isso tornou o momento favorável para um novo gênero musical, o Hardcore, um
gênero mais agressivo vindo do punk inglês.
Como o Biafra tinha
um pensamento baseado na anarquia, desde cedo a banda vinha trabalhando em
letras que atacavam a igreja, o consumismo, as guerras, a polícia, entre
outros.
Frankenchrist, se
não o mais polêmico álbum da banda foi um dos; isso por que traz em sua capa
desenhos de jirombas e pepecas pênis e vaginas, fazendo com que a banda
se envolvesse em um processo criminal sendo acusada de distribuição
pornográfica para menores, tendo suas cópias apreendidas.
